How Many Sessions?

  • Horses in high level of work that are very reactive to their first massage, have structural issues, healing from injuries or have a mysterious lameness may need up to three massages in the first week, two in the second week and then once a week until they have recovered. If the mysterious lameness is muscular it will be apparent by week 2 of this plan.

  • Horses in moderate or heavy work, who compete regularly, who are moderately reactive during their first massage will only need a massage every other week or before strenuous activity.

  • Horses in light to moderate work or do not have any specific issues will only need a massage every two weeks for six weeks and then as needed.

  • Pleasure horses – massage as needed.

Common causes inhibiting peak performance:

  • Certain factors will cause the horse to compensate, thus causing muscular tension and pain. Massage will relieve the pain, but the root cause of the issue must be addressed so the problem does not re-occur.

  • Poor saddle fit

  • Imbalanced hooves

  • Diet

  • Hormonal imbalances
